In Year 5 we have a daily literacy lesson, as well as dedicated spelling, grammar and guided reading sessions. The children are expected to use clear, joined handwriting and are encouraged to take pride in the presentation of all of their learning.

Our literacy learning includes narrative writing in different genres, newspaper recounts, narrative poetry, persuasive leaflets, explanations and biography. Throughout literacy lessons, we will develop our key writing skills based on different genres, writing for purpose and audience. Through oral rehearsal, drafting and editing we aim to produce writing that is high quality, interesting to read and a showcase of our children's own high expectations.
