Reception Ladybird and Bumblebee
Welcome to Reception 2024 - 2025!
We are really excited to welcome your children into Reception at Leatherhead Trinity School. Have a look at our page to find out all the things that we are learning in Reception.
Timetable:
Throughout the day, there are lots of opportunities for children to learn through play. Learning opportunities will be set up inside and outside for the children to free flow between. These cover all areas of the early years curriculum. There will also be opportunities for children to work in focus small group activities.
An example of a typical day
8.45am - Children come in self register and select an activity independently.
9.10am - 10.15am - Phonics start with a whole class carpet session.
Phonics continues with the children working in small groups with class teacher. In the autumn term, this is usually around 20 minutes long. As the year progresses, the length of the session increases. They may also read with an adult 1:1. For the rest of the time they will have free flow and will choose their play which will all be linked to learning and supported by the adults in the session.
Free flow starts during phonics group sessions.
10.15 - 10.35 Snack time - Children will be given a snack such as fruit or vegetables.
11.20 am – Whole class maths session on the carpet.
11.40am – Lunch
13:00pm – Whole class carpet session. The learning focus of these changes daily.
During the afternoon, children will take part in small group activities that cover the whole curriculum. These last around 15 minutes. For the rest of the time they will have free flow and will choose their play, which will all be linked to learning and supported by the adults in the session.
3.05pm – Whole class story session and milk time.
3.20pm – End of the day
Our learning
During the year you can see our amazing learning by visiting our webpage. These are our topics for the year. These might change during the year depending on the children’s interests. Each topic is always linked a high quality text, and we read widely around our topic. We start each 3 week topic by finding out what the children already know about it. Then we do an immersion activity (an exciting event linked to the learning e.g. a trip, a visitor, something exciting in class.) After that we involve the children in choosing what they would like in each area of the classroom to explore each topic so that the learning is child led wherever possible.
